PM SHRI Schools – Shaping the Future of Education
PM SHRI (Prime Minister Schools for Rising India) is a flagship initiative of the Government of India aimed at transforming the education landscape by developing more than 14,500 schools into model institutions across the country. This centrally sponsored scheme is being implemented in collaboration with Central, State, and UT Governments and local bodies, including institutions like Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVS) and Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVS).
These schools are envisioned to become exemplary centres of excellence, where every child is welcomed, cared for, and empowered to reach their full potential. PM SHRI Schools will provide safe, inclusive, and joyful learning environments supported by modern infrastructure, digital resources, innovative pedagogy, and strong community engagement.
Aligned with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the initiative focuses on nurturing engaged, productive, and responsible citizens equipped with 21st-century skills and rooted in Indian values and traditions. The holistic development of students will be at the core—covering academics, co-curricular activities, physical well-being, and social-emotional learning.
More than 20 lakh students across India are expected to benefit directly from these schools. Importantly, the learnings and best practices from PM SHRI Schools will serve as a guide for improving the overall quality of education and will be scaled to other schools across the country, thus raising the standard of public education as a whole.
PM SHRI Schools in Nagaland
As part of this nationwide transformation, In Nagaland, 49 schools have been selected so far under five phases of the scheme. The selection has been done through a transparent and merit-based “Challenge Mode”, where schools applied through the PM SHRI portal and were evaluated based on their:
- Existing infrastructure and facilities
- Academic performance
- Geographic location and accessibility
- Commitment to innovation and inclusivity
These selected schools in Nagaland will now serve as exemplar institutions, showcasing how empowered school leadership, engaged teachers, and well-resourced environments can together create vibrant spaces for learning.
Our Commitment
With the implementation period spanning 2022–23 to 2026–27, PM SHRI Schools represent a bold and forward-looking step towards creating an equitable, inclusive, and future-ready education system in India. Together, we are laying the foundation for an education ecosystem that inspires excellence and ensures no child is left behind.
Our Mission
To create model schools that provide high-quality, inclusive, and equitable education, nurturing every child into a confident, capable, and responsible citizen. PM SHRI Schools aim to inspire excellence through modern infrastructure, innovative teaching, and holistic development, in line with the vision of the National Education Policy 2020.
Process of Selection
Selection of PM SHRI schools is done through Challenge Mode wherein Schools compete for support to become exemplar schools. Selection is done through a three-stage process with definite timelines, which is as follows: –
- Stage-1: States/UTs to sign MoU with Centre laying down the commitments for supporting these schools for achieving specified quality assurance as PM SHRI schools.
- Stage-2: In this stage, a pool of schools that are eligible to be selected as PM SHRI Schools are identified based on prescribed minimum benchmark through UDISE+ data.
- Stage-3: This stage is based on the challenge method for fulfilling certain criteria. Only the schools from the above eligible pool of schools compete to fulfil the challenge conditions. Fulfilment of conditions is certified by states/KVS/JNV through physical inspection.
- States/UTs/KVS/JNV shall verify the claims reported by Schools and recommend the list of schools to the Ministry.
- An Expert committee headed by Secretary (SE&L), at Ministry of Education is constituted for final selection of schools.
